Que onda
It's been driving me crazy ever since I heard
Becks
new song
Que onda guero
, what does it mean? Now, I know a little spanish and I know "Que onda" is "What's up" but I had no idea what guero was. Back in my restaurant days (when I shaved my head) I was called
pelon
(which roughly means baldy) but I never heard guero nor was I ever called guero (even though I am a guero). Well, curiosity got the better of me so I did some searching this morning and I
found it
; "Que onda guero?" is "What's up, whitey?"
Hey, that's me... i'm a guero, rather; soy guero.
Ok, back to work.
UPDATE:
For those of you reading the comments,
guey
(pronounced 'way') is basically spanish for dude. Am I wrong here?

I know Flaco is skinny (was called that a few times) and I've heard the term guey used before but I'm not quite sure what it means.
So, what does guey mean?

Yeah.. pretty much.. I would say its closer to two friends acknowledging each other by saying.. "What's up fool?"

guey is a word that you wouldn't use around adults or people to be respected. friends only, typically amongst males but not always. fool is a rather nice translation of it.

Hmmm, my Babylon translated it as whats up blondie. Its interesting.... that I would never share space with the Dust Brothers... yet when one only hears... it sounds inviting. But then again when expressed by a native German speaker... well its like Gomez and Morticia.
Udder nonsense.

Guey is more like fool...but in a bad wordish way too.
Deffinitely never use it around Authority or those to be respected.
Here's one for you: Chale Guey!

Blonde huh?
I guess it's still referring to white in a round about sort of way.
Thanks Hugo.

its SLANG carnalitos. your going by its literal meaning when it literally means whatever we decide it means. Que onda guey!! is equivilant to the white person "whats up man!" it doesnt literally mean that but thats what were saying get it? If not well than i guess your shit out of luck and would need to be a mexican to understand. Same thing with Que hiro guey? you look up hiro and it tells you some other shit, but what im saying is like "whats happening/up man?" more in a questin for when Que Onda Guey is like an expression.

Chale guey, is another expression, mostly in east LA. Chale is just like an expression it doesnt have a literal meaning its like, its more of a sound than a word. Its just like when you would go around say "whatever, whatever dude, na whatever". You know its just an expression thats used for everything. "Hey vato you stole my sneakers!" "Chale!" / "Did you pass the test?" "Chale guey..." / "Hey help me out with this holmes" "Chale guey!" Its not really used too much here in South Texas, in south texas its "No mames"...can be used same as Chale almost just read the sentences over and replace the "Chale" phrases with "No Mames"
oh yea...Chale - CHA-LE(e with an asterick on top)
No Mames - MA-MES
